Job Description

Are you mechanically inclined, have an agricultural background, or have experience working at a dealership or in a parts department? If so, you might be a great fit for our open Parts Counter Person position!

We are a busy agricultural, recreational and light construction equipment dealership seeking a reliable and highly motivated parts counter person for our  Derby, Vermont store.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • customer parts sales in person and over the phone
  • parts order processing
  • in-store merchandising
  • cycle counting


Must haves include:

  • ability to think independently
  • good communication skills
  • excellent customer service skills
  • proficiency with computers


Experience in parts is preferred. This position is full time, with some Saturdays required. Health insurance, 401k, performance-based bonuses, clothing allowance, and other benefits provided. Pay commensurate with experience.

Job tasks that can be expected as a parts counter person:

· Read catalogs, microfiche viewers, or computer displays to determine replacement part stock numbers and prices.

· Determine replacement parts required, according to inspections of old parts, customer requests, or customers' descriptions of malfunctions.

· Receive and fill telephone orders for parts.

· Fill customer orders from stock.

· Prepare sales slips or sales contracts.

· Receive payment or obtain credit authorization.

· Take inventory of stock.

· Advise customers on substitution or modification of parts when identical replacements are not available.

· Examine returned parts for defects, and exchange defective parts or refund money.

· Mark and store parts in stockrooms according to prearranged systems.

· Discuss use and features of various parts, based on knowledge of machines or equipment.

· Demonstrate equipment to customers and explain functioning of equipment.

· Place new merchandise on display.

· Measure parts, using precision measuring instruments, to determine whether similar parts may be machined to required sizes.
