Location: Merriam

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Position Summary: Senior Accountant who thrives in a, fast-paced, data driven, mission centric organization  with a high drive for results and excellence. Proven ability to manage complex financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance while adapting to rapidly changing priorities. Skilled in streamlining processes, ensuring accuracy under pressure, and partnering cross-functionally to support mission-critical operations and compassionate care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements and monthly reports
  • Managing general ledger accounts, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulations
  • Tracking grants, donations, and restricted funds
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting
  • Supporting leadership with financial analysis and reporting

  • Perform any other finance-related tasks as required by the finance department

  • Process all mail, bank, credit card, and other financial transactions
  • Assist with month-end, year-end tasks and other financial duties
  • Assist with retail system tracking, reporting and maintenance
  • Process invoices and payments

  • Monitor and categorize company expenses, ensuring all are recorded in compliance with company policies
  • Input financial data into accounting software and spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Help prepare and organize financial documentation for internal and external audits
  • Act as a liaison with internal departments to gather financial information and provide assistance with financial inquiries

 

  • All other shelter duties as assigned

Key Capabilities

  • CPA preferred
  • Ideal candidate has 4-5 years accounting experience
  • Familiar with GAAP and Strong understanding of accounting principles
  • Quickbooks Online, experience preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with financial data and manage sensitive information
  • Organized, proactive and disciplined
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated good decision-making and judgement skills, and ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic and resourceful approach
  • Knowledge and work-related experience with animals preferred
  • Comfortable working in an ever changing fast paced animal focused environment, alongside pets in your office

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • BA Accounting

 

Work Conditions

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, onsite, 40 hours per week, with flexibility during busier periods
  • Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats of all ages and temperament
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Maturity, good judgment, professionalism, and ability to work as a team
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic in stressful situations
  • Compassion and empathy for animals and humans
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and reaching
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, and high noise levels
  • Handle and restrain animals weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Lift 50 lbs. to waist height
